Named after John Mallinson, a highly respected organist, choir master and music educator, JMYB is an intermediate, (AMEB grades 4-5 or equivalent), wind ensemble. We meet and rehearse at the Mount Waverley Secondary College Music Department on Saturdays during term time from 2.00pm – 5.00pm.. Formed in early 2009 by Joseph Yu, together with two brilliant music students from the University of Melbourne, David Singh and Carlos Escobar, JMYB is a wind ensemble for like minded and eager students to meet and to learn. JMYB provides the atmosphere, the music and the tutors to help advance students' development and awareness. . JMYB premiered in the 2009 Kingston Massed Band Festival. We performed in three more concerts that year, each with increasing impressive standard. The brass section participated in a workshop given by the Vienna Trombone Quartet and the band received critical acclaim for their performance in St John's Winter Concert in October 2010. . We have a rich music library filled with contrasting compositions, from standard classics for wind band to tailor-made arrangements; we have a bit of everything from everywhere. Our musicians will be exposed to as many different musical experiences as possible, to optimise their development. . Within JMYB, students can also explore the beauty and the challenge of smaller ensembles. Rehearsal as such will be held during each term, in which students will be intensively coached in groups like the Mallinson Brass Ensemble, John's Bones (trombone quartet), the JM Sax Quartet, the Mallinson Trumpeters, JM Percussion, the John Mallinson Clarinet Choir, the Mallinson Flute Choir, and the Mallinson Jazz Combo. . JMYB has enjoyed a strong and successful beginning, and intends to build from that; we have many adventures planned for the future.
